Hydaelyn’s residents have suffered the loss of family, livelihood, and freedom through invasion, war, and forces beyond their imagining.

How it started

Fleeing the destruction of home and country to Eorzea, refugees have flocked from all walks of life all over the world to escape the tyranny of the Garlean Empire, natural disasters brought on by Primals, and those who have lost their livelihood due to War, and the political corruption running through the Eorzean underground. Starting out in the dust storms of Central Thanalan, amongst the impovershed homeless in tattered tents and canopies, these people came together to create a new homestead, to carve out a place to call their own.

Having spent a few months together outside the gates of Thanalan's city state, it was by fortune and good luck that this band of homeless strangers found themselves upon the gates of the Goblet where they ended up finding their new home which they deemed 'Sanctuary'. It took some time, but their new home became the center stage of the first chapter in rebuilding their individual lives again. Remnant has made it their policy and belief to take in people of all walks of life from the former criminals, to the privileged down on their luck that may need a new place to call 'Home'.

What we are now

Now registered as an official free company, the Company of Remnant seeks to offer a fresh start to individuals who may need a place to stay, and help finding work in order to get back on their feet. After all, starting over is never easy and having a place to do that is crucial in anyone's lives. REMNANT offers people a room in their large villa, either to share with others or keep to themselves. The members of the household all vary in reputation and skill sets, and their Sanctuary is where they all come together to help one another in common goals and interests. All those at REMNANT ask is that members pull their weight by taking care of the home, and people may stay there without any fees attached.

Those looking for work have a variety of options around the REMNANT house. Working on their craft to build themselves up as artisans of their selected trade, finding work through the community cork board where announcements, notices, and job postings will be listed. Additionally REMNANT is partnered with the S&S Trading Co. which is a shipping organization that offers additional work on the side.

While home and happiness are important within REMNANT, the company's goal is to make a positive change within the heart of Thanalan and in Ul'dah society. Being that Ul'dah is run by the corrupt nature of Merchant Lords and the Syndicate, the belief at REMNANT is that with effort and the power of the people, perhaps the hand of corruption can be stayed.
REMNANT seeks to create an environment for its players to participate in role play of their making. REMNANT started out as not an adventuring company, or a mercenary troupe, but a collection of individuals representing a slice-of-life of Eorzea, over the backdrop of those looking to start anew. Through character participation that backdrop and plot is always changing and progressing through FC and personal character-driven story arcs from each of it's members.

Role play is completely character-driven, and the Free Company will grow as the Free Company expands, with story arcs represented as chapters in an on-going story of how the camp and its members went from being homeless refugees in Thanalan, to acquiring a Villa, a company, a ship and an Airship in Ul'dah, etc. The plot is forever changing, and we can’t say what it will look like in a few months from now. Characters will drive the change and evolution of the Free Company.

Chapters

These chapters start with the coming together of the refugees, how they acquired their home in the Goblet, and where the road is taking them now. The group has now progressed into an official Free Company, and future chapters will continue to expand from that. Because the guild is slice of life with a mixture of plot involvement, anything is possible- giving players the opportunity to participate in role play geared towards their character archetype through character development and story advancement.

The Free Company status message will be updated to reflect a problem, or issue in the household, via the cork board, that needs to be viewed or solved by the characters.
  • Example Problem. The household alchemist needs a specific herb! Players can go out and start leveling or gathering with their Botanists, bringing that herb back to the house. All of this creates an opportunity for role play to discuss the issue, make a plan, go gather the material, haul it back, and have it crafted. Any materials offered up by players will either be sold, and the funds deposited in the FC chest to go towards housing, airship, or other guild-related project. High-end materials will also be saved for FC-related crafting.
  • Example Problem #2. An investigation is underway and your character wishes to be involved in a scenario taking place. Go out and investigate the situation, or potentially engage in a roll-based DMing scenario to find out clues to progress the rest of the story for the rest of the household.
  • The Free Company crest also changes depending on the story or chapter of the FC story. The crest will never stay consistently the same.

More than Roleplay

REMNANT encourages a balanced approach to gaming, providing its players with opportunities to enjoy all aspects of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, beyond roleplaying. If the particular chapter or events of the chapter are not tailored to a particular type of character that particular day, the player does not need to feel obligated to participate, and should take advantage of other aspects of the game. REMNANT will provide support for structured group-play for Raid content and PVP.

  • Free Company chat is in-character.
Our reasoning for this is that we want as much activity in the Free Company driven by characters. Folks logging in from a long day can find a clever way to tie in their weariness to fit within Eorzea, for example. FC chat will be used during Events to make role playing easier for FC members in crowded areas, as it can also be used alternatively for players who wish to role play but might also be doing something in the game.
  • In-character Linkshell
An additional linkshell for in-character communication for FC and non-FC characters will also be available for players that wish to be involved, but not a member of the FC in-character.
Players may have other FC obligations, but still wish to participate in what we have to offer in-character. This gives everyone an opportunity to connect for role play.
  • An out-of-character linkshell is available to discuss non-RP related activities. Non-FC members are also welcome.
We will still be supporting non-role playing activities. Communication is the single most important aspect of running an FC. We all need to be able to chat.
